Abstract:

Purpose. To substantiate the type of steel prime cost optimization criterion at the melting phase, including the additional costs associated with maintenance of heat and material balance.

Methodology. The equations of material and heat balance were obtained by means of use of certain relations describing the physical and chemical processes in the converter tub during the blowing out hot metal with oxygen and subsequent deoxidization in the ladle. We propose to add the balance equation components into the consolidated economic cost minimization criterion for finished steel prime cost, since the violation of each balance type has negative consequences worsening the process. The problem of composition optimization of the metal blend is not linear with fuzzy constraints from the mathematical point of view. It is necessary to find a method that includes the mentioned features to solve this problem. Also it is necessary to assure using of suggested model by the operator of converter department at workplace.

Findings. The consolidated optimization criterion of melt blending in the oxygen converter using heat and material balance has been obtained and it is principally economic. An optimization problem has been formulated and we have shown that it's substantially non-linear, and the constraints have a high degree of uncertainty. Software prototype that implements the mathematical model and the optimization method has been developed.

Originality. The consolidated optimization criterion of melt blending in oxygen converter on the basis of heat and material melting balance, which is principally economic and includes balance equations, has been proposed for the first time. We have shown that the violation of the heat balance has an asymmetrical impact on the prime cost of steel.

Practical value. Software prototype in the programming language VBA has been developed, which allows converter operator to perform blending with minimum cost of finished steel. The program includes data entry interfaces on the current melting, residual material database, calculation module and support system of decision-making interface. Possible reduce of the prime cost of carbon steel production using the program is from 1 to 3%.
