Innovative mathematical tools for benchmarking transmissions of transport vehicles

Abstract:

Purpose. Development and evaluation of integral criteria system for stepless transmissions of vehicles for objective comparison of the alternatives. Available mathematical formalization of optimum criteria has been proposed without taking into consideration fuel efficiency. The system cannot be complete without formalization and transformation of the key factor into integral stochastic criterion.

Methodology. Theoretical studies of transmissions were based on the key issues of theory of machines and mechanisms and on the theory of closed double-split transmissions.

Findings. Rational vector of design parameters for two-stream hydrostatic mechanical transmission has been determined in a computer-interaction mode basing on maximization of criteria according to dynamic factor and transmission efficiency and minimization of criteria according to heat emission and fuel consumption. As for transmission of a mine diesel locomotive operating in relatively stable technological process, the system of criteria allows: a) determining optimum set of transmission design parameters from the viewpoint of mean integral efficiency; b) applying a technique of structural and parametrical synthesis of stepless transmissions using known regular optimization methods; c) monitoring alternatives of transmission circuitry at a design stage applying scientific substantiation to select the most efficient transmission.

Originality. Criteria system to evaluate efficiency of stepless transmission of mine diesel locomotives has been improved owing to correction of vectors of structurally variable parameters; and new integral criterion according to fuel efficiency has been proposed. This makes it possible to compare objectively basic technical and economic parameters of transmissions and specify their rational or optimal design parameters.

Practical value. The improved criteria system can be used for substantiation of transmission type providing required moving force and stepless regulation of diesel locomotive speed within the given range when diesel engine operates with constant crankshaft rotation frequency providing minimum emissions and fuel consumption.
