Some features of the development and application of nitrogen-compressor stations in mines

Abstract:

Purpose. Consideration of some aspects of scientific problems of development and application of technologies for underground production of nitrogen gas via underground modular nitrogen compressor stations to improve the technical performance of mining complexes and mine safety in coal mines.

Methodology. Computational studies on the use of nitrogen gas for inerting fire and explosion hazardous atmosphere of mined-out area and working area of the executive devices of mining machinery to safe concentrations.

Findings. We suggest an option of use of nitrogen gas in the process of coal mining by directly supplying it to the executive device of the mining machine for inerting explosive methane environment.

Originality. We have substantiated the necessity and feasibility of establishment of nitrogen-mobile compressor stations to generate nitrogen gas directly in underground mines and providing of its supply for inerting fire and explosion hazardous atmosphere in faces of mine workings during mining operations.

Practical value. The proposed technology of generation of nitrogen gas in underground conditions close to underground consumers can reduce the time spent on NCS deploy, reduce nitrogen losses during feeding by nitrogen surface compressor stations through gas-supply pipe, and perform inerting of fire and explosion hazardous medium directly in the faces of mine workings. This may increase the technical performance of mining machines and systems and in combination will improve the safety of mining.
