Abstract:
Purpose. To develop and validate integrated technical solutions for the safe and efficient extraction of coal reserves located at syncline bottoms (coal accumulation zone bottoms) in underground mines of the Quang Ninh region under complex tectonic conditions associated with increased risks in ventilation, drainage, transportation, and ground control.
Methodology. The study applied an integrated approach combining geological analysis, assessment of current mining conditions at Nam Mau Mine, development of optimized mine access and panel layout schemes, and design of supporting systems including ventilation and drainage arrangements. The proposed solutions were experimentally implemented and monitored at the I-9-3 longwall face to evaluate their operational effectiveness.
Findings. The application of morphology-based panel zoning, priority extraction of bottom zones, enhanced local ventilation, and improved drainage systems resulted in increased coal recovery, reduced losses, and stable control of methane concentrations within permissible limits. Operational stability of the longwall was improved, and technical and economic indicators showed measurable enhancement compared with previous conditions.
Originality. The study proposes and experimentally validates an integrated solution specifically adapted to syncline bottom geometries (trough-type and boat-type structures), addressing geological configurations that are common in the Quang Ninh coal basin but insufficiently systematized in mining practice.
Practical value. The results provide practical guidance for the design and implementation of mining operations in syncline bottom zones, contributing to improved safety, recovery efficiency, and operational reliability in underground coal mines.
