Geologic-geomorfological assessment of gully and ravine urban landscapes from geoecological positions

Abstract:

Purpose. To carry out geological and geomorphologic analysis of gully and ravineterritories of cities of the Central Russia: Bryansk, Smolensk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Samara, Volgograd.

Methodology. The analysis has been carried out on the basis of archival geological data and results of natural researches. The choice of the territories of specified cities as objects of study was caused by the close geographical and climatic features, close parameters of hydrosphere, developed complexes of sedimentary rocks, and similar structure and genesis of overburden. The cities have close indicators on population, area, industry development which is necessary for comparative general estimation of anthropogenic influence on activation of erosion processes and their changes in conditions of existingurban landscapes.

Findings. The basic features of the geological structure and lithologic-petrographic composition of the basic geological strata lying in the base of urban landscapesof the cities have been shown. The review of hydro-geological and hydrological conditions in gullies and ravines of the studied territories is presented. Geomorphologic features of elements of the studied ravines and gullies have been considered and generalized. In general, the article describes geologic-geomorphologic structureof gullies and ravines and shows that formation and activation of erosion on the territories is defined by a complex of factors which are realized in concrete geographic-climatic conditions. The complex of the factors influencing development of gullies and ravines network and its transformation belongs to geoecological type. The results of the analysis of geoecological conditions in the cities which have different affect on gullies and ravines.

Originality. The general geoecological preconditions of creation of urban landscape at the territories with difficult relief have been determined.

Practical value. On the basis of received results the problems of urban management of gullies and ravines located within the territory of cities can be solved.
